Do New York Jets support Islamic Terrorism?!?

Posted on 11:05 by Unknown

As a lifelong fan of the New York Jets, Cahnman's Musings was disappointed and disturbed to read this report from Breitbart Sports yesterday.

Last April, the Jets used their fifth round draft pick to select Oday Aboushai, a Palestinian (*) offensive linemen who was born in Samaria and grew up in Brooklyn.  While Aboushai possesses physical stature, he lacks athleticism.  The football justification for this pick is questionable.

Aboushai's life off-field, however, includes the following:
  • Denying Israel's right to exist
  • Helping to raise money for a money-laundering Hamas front-group.
  • Attending a conference whose organizers have praised Hitler and denied the Crucifixion.
This is an alarming draft pick.  The Jets owe fans an explanation, especially after their shameful treatment of Tim Tebow.  It appears the New York Jets are more concerned with faithful Christians than open terrorist sympathizers.

BOOK REVIEW: "The People, The Preachers, and the Politicans" by Pastor Dan Cummins

Posted on 22:58 by Unknown

'Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” '

1 Samuel 1:11

The other day, we read The People, The Preachers, and the Politicians, by Pastor Dan Cummins.  It was a quick and informative read that re-enforces a point we've made recently.  If Americans (or at least Texans) take care of the things God cares about, then He will take care of the things we care about.

The book is a national call to repentance.  It focuses on Ancient Israel at the end of the era of Judges.  At the time, the nation was weak from internal corruption; as Cummins writes:
The nation was engaged in a war on terror, the moral failure of a politically correct clergy was scandalous, judges were ruling for political and monetary gain, God's presence was absent in the town square and the Ten Commandments...literally gone...SOUND FAMILIAR?!? (18)
In the midst of calamity, one woman's prayer (the prophet Samuel's mother Hannah) helped birth a national revival.  The prophet Samuel anointed King David, a (mostly) godly man who led Israel to her greatest prosperity.

As a national call to repentance, the book is similar to the Harbinger, though the two books focus on different eras in Israel's history.  The similarities between the United States today and Ancient Israel is obvious to anyone who knows the Old Testament.  Cummins details the corruption in the people of both societies, our religious leaders, and our civil government in eye opening form.  Both societies drifted from their spiritual foundation and both suffered similar consequences.  The question is what are going to do about it?!?

The answer is to pray, repent, and get to work doing His business.  If we do that, He'll take care of the rest.  Heading into this next special session, that means we need to focus on passing pro-life legislation and trust Him to take care of the economy.

America is out of what because our vertical relationship with God is out of whack.  Our nation is suffering because we've drifted from God.  If we return to Him, He will take care of the rest.

Billy Graham -- Charlotte 1958 -- The Lonliness of Character vs. the Lonliness of Sin

Posted on 16:06 by Unknown
Wow:

The Prayer in the Garden

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Highlights:
  • The last 24 hours of Jesus' life were the darkest in the history of the world.
  • "Before the triumph, before the crown, before the Kingdom, before the victory, there had to come the suffering, there had to come the Cross."
  • Many times in scripture you find Christ praying all night.
  • "Christ wasn't killed by Rome or Israel, the Bible tells us Christ was crucified by you and me; my sins and yours crucified Christ."
  • The physical cross weighed 250 pounds.
  • Have you helped carry the cross?!?
  • Only Jesus could present a sacrifice pleasing to God.
  • Moses had to stand alone; Elijah on Mount Carmel had to stand alone.
  • The loneliness of character vs. the loneliness of Sin.
  • Thousands of our mental problems are the result of spiritual separation from God.
  • Rejecting Jesus is the one unpardonable sin.

The Original, Biblical, Tea Party

Posted on 06:10 by Unknown

From 2 Chronicles 10:

The Revolt Against Rehoboam

10 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king. 2 So it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), that Jeroboam returned from Egypt. 3 Then they sent for him and called him. And Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 4 “Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.”
5 So he said to them, “Come back to me after three days.” And the people departed.
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, saying, “How do you advise me to answer these people?”
7 And they spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever.”
8 But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 And he said to them, “What advice do you give? How should we answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”
10 Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you should speak to the people who have spoken to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter on us’—thus you shall say to them: ‘My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist! 11 And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!’”[a]
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had directed, saying, “Come back to me the third day.” 13 Then the king answered them roughly. King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders, 14 and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, “My father[b] made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!”[c] 15 So the king did not listen to the people; for the turn of events was from God, that the Lord might fulfill His word, which He had spoken by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying:
“What share have we in David?
We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse.
Every man to your tents, O Israel!
Now see to your own house, O David!”
So all Israel departed to their tents. 17 But Rehoboam reigned over the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was in charge of revenue; but the children of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. Therefore King Rehoboam mounted his chariot in haste to flee to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
 See also 1 Kings 12:1-20.

Background: This section follows the death of King Solomon.  While Solomon had been a godly King in his early years (when he built the temple), in his later years he was swept with the temptations of Earthly power.  Where he originally raised taxes to build the temple (which the people supported), he moved on build palaces and country estates for himself.

ICR: Fear the Right Fear

Posted on 06:20 by Unknown
Couldn't agree more:
"Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread." (Isaiah 8:12-13)

The people of Judah were terrified by the imminent prospect of invasion by the cruel Assyrian hordes who had been further strengthened by a confederacy with Judah's own brethren in the ten-tribe kingdom of Israel. It is indeed cause for concern when compromising Christians join ranks with ungodly pagans in opposing those who defend the true word of God, for such a combination seems almost too strong to resist. A modern example is the current collaboration between the secular evolutionists and those Christian evolutionists and "progressive creationists" who oppose Christians who stand for the literal truth of the biblical record of creation and earth history.

This is cause only for concern, however, not for fear! Just as in Isaiah's day, we must fear God--not men. In the coming judgment it will be far easier to explain to God why we had too much faith in His word than too little!

These verses are referred to by the apostle Peter in a well-known New Testament passage: "Be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:14-15).

Therefore, when unbelievers and compromising believers join forces against those who fully believe the Bible, the proper response is not panic, or submission, or even belligerent opposition, but an implicit confidence in God and His word, accompanied by a gracious "answer" (literally "apologetic") in defense of the truth, given in a meek spirit and in fear only of God. HMM
That line on 'compromising believers' says it all.

Billy Graham's 1960 Easter Message from Jerusalem

Posted on 14:53 by Unknown

1.The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

2 Kings 19:29-31 and the United States in 2013

Posted on 15:55 by Unknown

"This shall be a sign to you: You shall eat this year such as grows of itself, And in the second year what springs from the same; Also in the third year sow and reap, Plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.  And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.  For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this."  2 Kings 19:29-31

"God graciously gave Hezekiah a sign of His good intentions for His people.  Despite the fact that the Assyrian invasion had adversely affected the crops for that year and the next, by the time of the third year the fields would again yield a plentiful harvest.  Even as a natural growth would remain for the two years preceding the harvest of the third year, so God left in Israel a spiritual remnant that would in a future day swell into a mighty harvest of souls."  Commentary on Verse 29, Nelson Study Bible

"The Lord's plan for your life will happen.  Some plans are not meant to come to pass overnight.  Sometimes the plan God has for you is a process that takes time to become reality."  Pastor John Hagee, Facebook, Earlier Today

I read that passage of scripture last week and it has stuck with me; I can't help wondering if we're witnessing something similar in the United States today.

Read in context, this passage describes God's deliverance of the Southern Kingdom, under King Hezekiah, shortly after the fall of Israel in 722 B.C.  God was in the process of rescuing Judah.  But the roots had to go down before the vineyards could produce fruit.

But when the time was right, the fruit came.  Under Hezekiah's godly leadership, Judah was blessed with a national revival that lasted decades.  But doing it right takes time.

Over the past few years, we've had some obvious setbacks, but we've also seen a lot of good.  On the surface, things look grim.  But there could be a lot going on under the surface that hasn't yet produced fruit.

Or maybe the United States is Israel, and Texas needs to prepare to be Judah; but that's a topic for another day.
