Racial Reconciliation, the Church, and Trayvon Martin

Posted on 17:55 by Unknown

How the Church in Sanford, FL promoted racial healing after the Trayon Martin shooting:

"Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
"

Matthew 5:9

Highlights:
  • Jackie Robinson wasn't allowed to play in Sanford.
  • 100 homicides every two months in Chicago without a peep from the Black community.
  • It isn't a Black and White thing, it isn't a race thing; it's a sin thing.
  • "God has called you to be radical ambassadors for peace."
  • The first thing the Church needs to do is pray.

How to Have a Spirtual Conversation

Posted on 17:58 by Unknown

This fall, almost 300 churches across Austin, TX are going to engage in Explore God, a campaign that seeks to answer spiritual questions people have in our 92% unchurched city.  The campaign will produce a series of videos that will equip believers to discuss God with their unsaved friends, co-workers, and associates.  This is the first video:

Explore God Training Session 1: How to Have a Spiritual Conversation from Hill Country Bible Church Austin on Vimeo.

Highlights:
  • A spiritual conversation is always two ways
    • Not a lecture
    • NOT a sales pitch
  • Attitude - Accepting, Listening, and Loving
    • Not confrontational or harsh
  • Don't interrupt
  • The Holy Spirit is ALWAYS the third party in the conversation
  • People are more open to spiritual conversations than you'd think.
    • Don't like arrogance or condescension.
  • Our part is planting and watering; not forcing change.
  • While people are open to spiritual matters, they lack Christian vocabulary and Biblical knowledge.
    • Jesus spoke in everyday language; that's why he used parables.
  • Be bold, but graciously so.
  • Let the conversation start naturally.
  • Walk, don't wave -- Talk to folks with whom you interact regularly about their lives
  • Icebreakers -- Anything that turns the conversation towards spiritual matters
    • "Did you grow up in Church?!?"
    • "What is your spiritual background?!?"
    • "How do you get through tough times?!?"
    • "Do you ever hope there's more than this?!?"
    • "How do you deal with uncertainty?!?"
  • Jesus asked questions and listened.
  • Next step -- Lunch or Coffee
    • Invite them to Church
    • Send them info

Do New York Jets support Islamic Terrorism?!?

Posted on 11:05 by Unknown

As a lifelong fan of the New York Jets, Cahnman's Musings was disappointed and disturbed to read this report from Breitbart Sports yesterday.

Last April, the Jets used their fifth round draft pick to select Oday Aboushai, a Palestinian (*) offensive linemen who was born in Samaria and grew up in Brooklyn.  While Aboushai possesses physical stature, he lacks athleticism.  The football justification for this pick is questionable.

Aboushai's life off-field, however, includes the following:
  • Denying Israel's right to exist
  • Helping to raise money for a money-laundering Hamas front-group.
  • Attending a conference whose organizers have praised Hitler and denied the Crucifixion.
This is an alarming draft pick.  The Jets owe fans an explanation, especially after their shameful treatment of Tim Tebow.  It appears the New York Jets are more concerned with faithful Christians than open terrorist sympathizers.

Turn the Other Cheek; Then Press Charges....

Posted on 06:46 by Unknown

"Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
"
Matthew 5:9-10

Abby Johnson posts the following warning on her Facebook page:
I just wanted to post something in preparation for tomorrow. I have had a couple of legitimately concerned abortion clinic workers (from Austin clinics) contact me to let me know what is being planned for tomorrow. Both Planned Parenthood and NARAL are no longer encouraging their supporters to be civil and courteous. These workers are telling me that many are planning on getting arrested and being aggressive with prolifers (including physical contact because they don't think we will press charges).

I am writing this to you guys because I used to be one of the abortion supporters. They are very angry, hurting people. At this time, they feel like they have nothing to lose. I am not posting this to frighten any of you...rather, I am posting this so you are aware of what we are dealing with. AND, I want all of you to go in armed with the power of prayer.

I am not bringing my children with me tomorrow. I do not want them to be a part of the spectacle that will take place.

Tomorrow is NOT the time to engage with any of them. Also, do not be reactive. If one of them starting spouting off to you, immediately turn and walk away. They will be looking to get into trouble tomorrow. Let's make sure they don't find any trouble with us.

St. Michael, pray for us.
Don't look for trouble.  If trouble finds you, lovingly advance justice.  God will take care of the rest.

Ted Cruz and the Baptists

Posted on 16:28 by Unknown

Sit and Spin ACLU:

Highlights:
  •  Sovereignty belongs to the people but we lend a tiny bit to government for a brief period of time, yet we have a constitution to, as Thomas Jefferson said, "bind the mischief of government."
  • Inscribed in the Liberty Bell was Leviticus 25:10: "Proclaim liberty throughout the land."
  • John Quincy Adams 1837: "Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the savior?!?"
  • As Christians, we're called to sacrifice and stand for principle.
  • We see liberty, in particular religious liberty, in peril.
  • If we want to preserve our liberty:
    • Pray
    • Stand Up
    • Speak
  • Believing "is getting into the wheelbarrow."

Erica Greider's Tweets

Posted on 17:44 by Unknown

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Matthew 7:13-14

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.[a] 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell.[b] And the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:46-49

"And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."
John 3:19

As the blogger who witnessed the Hail Satan chants, multiple people have sent us copies of tweets from Texas Monthly Senior Editrix Erica Greider:

@jpodhoretz @bdomenech I really can't make out the chant. *Maybe* that 1 girl at the end. But isn't sharia law the new satan worship?
— EricaGrieder (@EricaGrieder) July 3, 2013

@powellnyt that's what I thought, but this will probably be a full-blown right-wing meme by tomorrow morning
— EricaGrieder (@EricaGrieder) July 3, 2013

@JonAshDaniels @BDayspring @powellnyt @sunnyright In general, I don't think people should judge any group by one member thereof (#radical)
— EricaGrieder (@EricaGrieder) July 3, 2013
Cahnman's Musings has nothing to say about the politics of Mrs. Grieder's tweets; Erica Greider's politics speaks for itself.  We met her last January and found her to be diligent and fair.  Mrs. Greider's tweets, however, illustrate the spiritual reality behind this legislative fight.

The day after Wendy Davis' filibuster, we wrote about the spiritual deception driving most of the pro-abortion crowd.  Mrs. Grieder's tweets are an example of that deception.  If Mrs. Grieder understood Satan, she wouldn't joke about him.

A Hollywood film, the Ususal Suspects, explains it well:

Mrs. Grieder might not believe Satan exists, but what if she's wrong?!?

During the 7th century B.C., the Prophet Jeremiah wrote:

God’s Warning Rejected

12 And they said, “That is hopeless! So we will walk according to our own plans, and we will every one obey the dictates of his evil heart.”
13 Therefore thus says the Lord:
“Ask now among the Gentiles,
Who has heard such things?
The virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.
14 Will a man leave the snow water of Lebanon,
Which comes from the rock of the field?
Will the cold flowing waters be forsaken for strange waters?
15 “Because My people have forgotten Me,
They have burned incense to worthless idols.
And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways,
From the ancient paths,
To walk in pathways and not on a highway,
16 To make their land desolate and a perpetual hissing;
Everyone who passes by it will be astonished
And shake his head.
17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy;
I will show them[a] the back and not the face
In the day of their calamity.”
Cahnman's Musings finds it tragic that Mrs. Grieder buys into the same spiritual deception as all the other orange shirt people.  That deception manifests itself in a misplaced pride that suggests there is a constitutional right to consequence free sex.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  You're free to engage in sexual activity, but if that sexual activity results in the creation of new life, then that new life deserves legal protection.  Cahnman's Musings urges Mrs. Grieder to repent of such absurdities while she can.

The bottom line for Mrs. Grieder, just like everyone, is that God loves her.  God loves her so much that He sent His only Son to die a sacrificial death for her on a Roman Cross.  It's a free gift, but she has to say yes.  If she says yes, she will receive God's Holy Spirit who will bring spiritual understanding.  The Holy Spirit can certainly clarify any misconceptions about why Satan is bad, why there is no constitutional right to sex without consequences, and why new life resulting from sexual activity deserves legal protection Mrs. Greider might have.

Or Mrs. Greider could consciously reject a Loving God in favor of the empty philosophies of this world; it's her eternity, not ours....

The Original #HailSatan Incident (with Ashley's testimony)

Posted on 13:43 by Unknown

Yesterday, we obviously made a splash with the video of the pro-abortion supporter saying 'Hail Satan;' the video had a lot of background noise, and yesterday we said:
For the record: They've been doing this all day, this is just the first time we caught it on video.
Well guess what, it turns out we have video of the original incident.

So here's the full story, as best we can recall: Around 3 pm, we got up from posting this video and went downstairs by the area near the committee room.  Arriving on the second floor of the capitol extension, we met up with our friend D.J, who was watching women testify with LetTexasSpeak.com.  At that time LTS was broadcasting from a corner on the second floor.

Ashley joined us 20 minutes later, around 3:30.  We continued to listen to the women testify until there were too many people in the corner.  At that point, DPS asked us to move outside, which was when Ashley decided to speak.  We're not sure what time DPS asked us to move, but we were already outside by 4:05 pm when we decided to not watch Glenn Beck because we thought Stu was guest hosting.

20-30 minutes later, Ashley got up to speak.  As you can tell, her testimony is VERY powerful.  The crowd was transfixed, including the pro-abortion people.

As Ashley spoke, a few of the pro-abortion people started saying 'hail Satan' at random.  The first time we heard it was at 3:35 of this second video.  By 5:15, they're chanting it in unison, VERY creepily:

(Author's note: Ashley asked us to point out that she misspoke when she said abortion kills 1.3 people in the United States each year; she meant to say 1.3 million.)

The video posted yesterday took place around 6:30 pm.  This took place around 4:30.  The pro-abortion people were intermittently chanting "hail satan" throughout.

We met Ashley last summer, when the President was in town; to see the footage of the Barack Obama supporter who verbally accosted her that time, click here.

Wendy Davis Actually Said This

Posted on 13:22 by Unknown

Wendy Davis has been filibustering for four hours and she's already saying absurd things; from the Facebook page of Concerned Women for America's Associate State Director Michelle Smith:
"I use to be so proud to be a Texan, but now if you've got a uterus you've got to leave that state?"
This thing still has eight and a half hours to go; pray for Wendy Davis to have a repentant soul and overflowing bladder.

And Pray it in Jesus' name.

Amen.

Pastor Stephen Broden: God and Country 2012

Posted on 17:44 by Unknown
Cahnman's Musings got to see Pastor Broden speak earlier today; the video from that event isn't online yet, so, for now, enjoy this speech he gave last year:

Highlights:
  • The seeding ground for what we face today took place in the 18th and 19th centuries.
  • "America is like a healthy body, it's resistence is three-fold: it's patirotism, its morality, and its spiritual life; if we can undermine these three things, America will collapse from within." Joseph Stalin
  • God keeps bringing back 'social' issues; we won't fix the economy until we get 'social' issues right.
  • Banhoeffer was speaking to the Church.
  • You can't speak of American exceptionalism outside of our Judeo-Christian heritage; American exceptionalism is a result of our Judeo-Christian heritage.

What will Governor Perry Veto?!?

Posted on 12:21 by Unknown

Cahnman's Musings spent some time around the Capitol this afternoon.  A source who was in the room informs us that, during an unrelated bill signing ceremony, the Governor told a reporter "you'll find out when everyone else does" about his plans for the budget.  The Governor seems to be enjoying the suspense.

-----

Personally, Cahnman's Musings doubts the Governor would be stupid enough to build up this decision unless he plans a veto; but the Governor has disappointed before....

-----

All we can do at this point is pray, tweet, and call.

On that note, we'd just like to say: Lord, we leave it all to you.  We CAN'T do it on our own.  We pray you convict Governor Perry with a spirit of financial righteousness.  And we pray it in Jesus' name.  Amen.

You can read the full list of bills to veto here.

Truth Behind the Playboy Myth (WARNING: Graphic)

Posted on 21:01 by Unknown

For many years, Cahnman's Musings wanted to be, essentially, the next Hugh Hefner.  In 2011, a (less detailed) version of this story destroyed that illusion and accelerated our pace on the spiritual journey that led to us becoming a Christian.  This is an important story for any male who think he wants to be Hef to read; money quote:
But unfortunately for Hefner, some of his former ‘girlfriends’, as he calls them, have become disenchanted with life in his harem over the years....One by one they have revealed what life was like behind the glittering façade of the Playboy Mansion. According to them, it disguises a grubby world where some girls feel they are no better than prostitutes, paid pocket money by an octogenarian obsessive who funds plastic surgery to turn them into his physical ideal, and yet must still take huge amounts of Viagra to manage sex with them.

....

Hef was used to dirty carpets. The one in his bedroom had not been changed for years, and things became significantly worse when Holly Madison moved into his room with him as Girlfriend No. 1 soon after I moved in, bringing her two dogs.

‘They weren’t house-trained and would just do their business on the bedroom carpet. Late at night, or in the early hours of the morning — if any of us visited Hef’s bedroom — we’d almost always end up standing in dog mess.

‘Everything in the Mansion felt old and stale, and Archie the house dog would regularly relieve himself on the hallway curtains, adding a powerful whiff of urine to the general scent of decay.’

Many girls, it seems, endured these living conditions for the chance of becoming a centrefold in Playboy magazine — an invaluable career boost for any glamour model.

Others admitted that they stayed only for the cosmetic surgery to which Hefner treated them as a birthday presents, keeping a running account with a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.

....

WARNING: THIS IS THE PART WHERE IT GETS GRAPHIC.

...

Freedom of a kind came on Wednesdays and Fridays, the official nights out, which were the prelude to the twice-weekly sex parties in Hefner’s bedroom.

The girls travelled with Hefner in a white limousine which had a leopard-skin interior, with Playboy bunny logos sewn onto the seats. As they left the mansion, they drank Dom Perignon champagne and downed Quaaludes, a prescription-only sedative drug popularised in the Seventies and now handed out by Hefner.

‘Quaaludes were supposed to give you a nice buzz,’ says Izabella St James. ‘Hef told me once that they were meant to put girls in the mood for sex.’

The thrill of being out after curfew was tempered by Hefner’s wearying habit of going out to the same few clubs, night after night. And his ever-present security guards ensured that no other men were allowed to pay the girls any attention.

At around midnight, according to St James, Hef would take his Viagra. ‘After that, he would constantly check his watch to make sure we left at the right time because if we didn’t, or the timing got messed up, he wouldn’t be able to perform later.

‘We had to line up like geese and follow each other out of the club.’

As with so much else in their time with Hefner, the girls followed strict rules before entering his bedroom for the sex parties.

....

Beforehand, all the girls were told to take a bath. ‘I got in, then another girl appeared from nowhere and jumped in with me,’ recalls Spaulding. ‘Then Hef stepped around the corner and took a photo of us naked in the bath together before disappearing. It was all very strange.

‘Another girl led me into Hef’s master bedroom. The only light was coming from two TVs on which adult films were showing. All the other girls were there, dressed like me in pink pyjamas.

‘If you kept your pyjama bottoms on, that was a sign that you didn’t want to have contact that night.’ According to Spaulding there were 12 girls there on that first night, and only she and another girl declined the offer to have sex with Hefner, who did not use a condom.

There was no protection and no testing for sexually transmitted diseases,’ she says.

Izabella St James, it seems, was much more open about having a physical relationship with him.
‘I wanted to see if this experienced King of Sexdom knew anything the rest of us did not,’ she recalls. ‘But he just lay there like a dead fish.

‘We often wondered why he did it at all. He must know deep down that it is just a show. But he is trying to live out this fantasy he has been selling to people since 1954. He wants to live up to the Playboy image he created and the expectations people have of him.’
Cahnman's Musings prays for Mr. Hefner's soul; in the meantime, however, we urge readers to share this story with any guy who buys into this lie.

Billy Graham -- Charlotte 1958 -- The Lonliness of Character vs. the Lonliness of Sin

Posted on 16:06 by Unknown
Wow:

The Prayer in the Garden

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Highlights:
  • The last 24 hours of Jesus' life were the darkest in the history of the world.
  • "Before the triumph, before the crown, before the Kingdom, before the victory, there had to come the suffering, there had to come the Cross."
  • Many times in scripture you find Christ praying all night.
  • "Christ wasn't killed by Rome or Israel, the Bible tells us Christ was crucified by you and me; my sins and yours crucified Christ."
  • The physical cross weighed 250 pounds.
  • Have you helped carry the cross?!?
  • Only Jesus could present a sacrifice pleasing to God.
  • Moses had to stand alone; Elijah on Mount Carmel had to stand alone.
  • The loneliness of character vs. the loneliness of Sin.
  • Thousands of our mental problems are the result of spiritual separation from God.
  • Rejecting Jesus is the one unpardonable sin.

America's True Intolerance

Posted on 18:38 by Unknown

A Must Read Letter from Franklin Graham:

Is Our Nation Intolerant of Christianity?

A Prayer Letter From Franklin Graham

May 31, 2013 - Christians must never compromise their allegiance to the Savior, no matter what others may think.

Is Our Nation Intolerant of Christianity?
"We need God’s Word and His laws now more than ever."
— Franklin Graham
Is Our Nation Intolerant of Christianity?
Recently I was at a White House meeting with Vice President Joe Biden and had the opportunity to remind him that our main problem in America is that we have taken God out of our society and out of our government. We need God’s Word and His laws now more than ever.

Disobedience to God’s Word and His laws has wreaked havoc across the political, economic, and spiritual landscape of our country. There is scandal after scandal, and yet our nation’s leaders seem even more belligerent toward Christians.

If we hold up God’s standards, we are accused of being intolerant. “Tolerance” is one of today’s hot buttons, but in reality the true and fast-growing “intolerance” is for Christianity—anything that stands for Jesus Christ.

You may have read recently about the IRS apology for targeting conservative groups in 2011–12. I was not surprised to hear this—BGEA was audited last September, and many believe it was because we encouraged voters to take a strong stand on same-sex marriage issues and biblical values. The audit process was complex and time consuming, but as we expected, it ended well. During the process, in fact, the focus that BGEA puts on sound management and financial accountability was acknowledged as excellent.

Christians must never compromise their allegiance to the Savior, no matter what others may think.

The Lord is looking for men and women who will fully commit their heart, soul, and lives to His kingdom. We find in 1 Samuel that Saul was anointed to lead the Hebrew people. At first he won favor with the people and was victorious in battle. But in chapter 13, we read that Saul feared the opinions of men more than the commands of almighty God.

In a raid in the desert outside Jerusalem against Israel’s enemy the Amalekites, God had told Saul to fully destroy this enemy along with all their possessions. Instead, Saul spared King Agag and kept some of the choice sheep and oxen. He disobeyed God’s command. When the Prophet Samuel arrived and saw the evidence of Saul’s clear disobedience, he pronounced God’s judgment. “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. ... Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king” (1 Samuel 15:22–23, ESV).

Think about it—partial obedience is really no obedience at all. Complete obedience is what the Lord desires. We must never back down from fully following Christ because we fear public opinion or the ridicule of others.
Jesus Christ has commanded us to “go ... and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19)—that commandment applies to each one of us, all of His followers. We can’t fix all the social injustices and problems of our day, but we have been called to take this Gospel to the ends of the earth. BGEA is an evangelistic ministry. We exist to proclaim the lifesaving Gospel of our Savior to as many as possible.

Right now, we have a great opportunity to be involved in reaching others through My Hope America with Billy Graham. It is a simple plan. Make a list of lost friends, acquaintances, and loved ones and begin fervently praying for their salvation. In November, each of us will invite people we care about to our home, church, or favorite hangout to watch a dynamic new program we are developing with a message from my father. You can learn more about participating at MyHopeWithBillyGraham.org. We have training available online to help equip you to share your faith.

A young man who has signed up to be a part of My Hope America wrote us recently to say that he had been praying for a long time for his brother’s salvation. While looking through the My Hope America resources we sent him, he felt a strong sense that the Holy Spirit was saying, “The time is now.” He realized God was prompting him to talk again to his brother about Jesus. “Having this conversation was hard for me at first,” he says, “but, boy, am I glad I was obedient, because today a man who once studied hard to try and prove that God was not real, now follows Jesus Christ!” God works through our lives in mighty ways when we are obedient to His leading.

Your prayers and financial support are critically important for carrying out the nationwide My Hope America outreach, and we are counting on your personal participation in helping to reach people you know who need the power of the Gospel in their lives. Thank you for all you do in serving our Lord.
May God bless you,

Franklin Graham, President

Reagan's Evil Empire Speech

Posted on 22:01 by Unknown
Earlier today, I was discussing the second amendment with my boss.  He, correctly, pointed out that the entire gun control premise was based on the utopian desire to 'perfect' man, which is impossible in this fallen, sinful, world.  The conversation got me thinking about Reagan's Evil Empire speech.  That speech is famous for Reagan's devastating take-down of the Soviets, but the first twenty minutes were an equally stinging rebuke of domestic Marxism from a Biblical perspective.  Never forget, this speech was delivered to a Church group:

Highlights:
  • Reagan opens the speech thanking the audience for their prayers; "I believe in intercessory prayer."
  • "The American experiment in democracy rests on this insight. Its discovery was the great triumph of our Founding Fathers, voiced by William Penn when he said: “If we will not be governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants.” "
  • "I want you to know that this administration is motivated by a political philosophy that sees the greatness of America in you, her people, and in your families, churches, neighborhoods, communities–the institutions that foster and nourish values like concern for others and respect for the rule of law under God.  Now, I don’t have to tell you that this puts us in opposition to, or at least out of step with, a–a prevailing attitude of many who have turned to a modern-day secularism, discarding the tried and time-tested values upon which our very civilization is based. No matter how well intentioned, their value system is radically different from that of most Americans. And while they proclaim that they’re freeing us from superstitions of the past, they’ve taken upon themselves the job of superintending us by government rule and regulation.
  • How far are American parents willing to go in giving to Washington "their prerogatives as parents?!?"
  • "Girls termed “sexually active”–and that has replaced the word “promiscuous”–"
    • Author's Note: Amen to that!!!
  • "Is all of Judeo-Christian tradition wrong? Are we to believe that something so sacred can be looked upon as a purely physical thing with no potential for emotional and psychological harm? And isn’t it the parents’ right to give counsel and advice to keep their children from making mistakes that may affect their entire lives?"
  • "But the fight against parental notification is really only one example of many attempts to water down traditional values and even abrogate the original terms of American democracy. Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged. [Applause] When our founding fathers passed the First Amendment, they sought to protect churches from government interference. They never intended to construct a wall of hostility between government and the concept of religious belief itself"
  • "The First Amendment never intended to require government to discriminate against religious speech."
  • "You…You may remember that when abortion on demand began, many, and indeed, I’m sure many of you, warned that the practice would lead to a decline in respect for human life, that the philosophical premises used to justify abortion on demand would ultimately be used to justify other attacks on the sacredness of human life–infanticide or mercy killing. Tragically enough, those warnings proved all too true. Only last year a court permitted the death by starvation of a handicapped infant."
  • "But we must never forget that no government schemes are going to perfect man. We know that living in this world means dealing with what philosophers would call the phenomenology of evil or, as theologians would put it, the doctrine of sin."
  • "Yes, let us pray for the salvation of all of those who live in that totalitarian darkness–pray they will discover the joy of knowing God. But until they do, let us be aware that while they preach the supremacy of the State, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination of all peoples on the earth, they are the focus of evil in the modern world."
  • "It was C.S. Lewis who, in his unforgettable “Screwtape Letters,” wrote: “The greatest evil is not done now…in those sordid ‘dens of crime’ that Dickens loved to paint. It is…not even done in concentration camps and labor camps. In those we see its final result, but it is conceived and ordered; moved, seconded, carried and minuted in clear, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice.”"
  •  "You know, I’ve always believed that old Screwtape reserved his best efforts for those of you in the Church. So, in your discussions of the nuclear freeze proposals, I urge you to beware the temptation of pride–the temptation of blithely..uh..declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally at fault, to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and good and evil."
  • "Whittaker Chambers, the man whose own religious conversion made him a witness to one of the terrible traumas of our time, the Hiss-Chambers case, wrote that the crisis of the Western world exists to the degree in which the West is indifferent to God, the degree to which it collaborates in communism’s attempt to make man stand alone without God. And then he said, for Marxism-Leninism is actually the second-oldest faith, first proclaimed in the Garden of Eden with the words of temptation, “Ye shall be as gods.”"

National Day of Prayer Danny Forshee Classic: Just Ask

Posted on 21:10 by Unknown

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Matthew 7:7-11

Today is the National Day of Prayer.  Ten days ago, Pastor Danny delivered this message on how prayer works and what prayer can accomplish:

Highlights:
  • You can do many things after you pray, but nothing before.
  • The importance of making petition to God.
  • If Jesus, who was perfect, poured out his heart in prayer, what does that mean for us?!?
  • Pastor Danny prays for at least an hour each day.
  • "I have yet to see God do a demonstrative, palpable, powerful work among His people unless His people ask for it."
  • God ALWAYS answers prayers.
  • God commands us: ask, seek Me.
    • "We're not bothering God."
    • James 4:2 -- You do not have because you do not ask.
  • Ask God to answer your prayer in His way!
  •  Some of our prayers aren't answered because we're not walking with the Lord.
  • The greater part of prayer is not the answer, but the byproduct of intimacy with Christ.
  • The more you talk to God in prayer, the more it changes your life.
  • Start tracking answered prayers.

    The Lazarus Phone

    Posted on 14:06 by Unknown

38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying.[a] And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

    John 11: 38-44

Yesterday, my phone died.   I mean dead.  Wouldn't turn on.  Wouldn't charge.  Wouldn't nothing.  This was a real pain, because I can't afford a new one at the moment.  In attempting to deal with the situation, I made the following post to Facebook:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, my phone just died; does anyone in Austin have a Boost Mobile compatible phone they'd be willing to sell dirt cheap?!?

I will also accept prayers for a Lazarus style resurrection on the old phone!
I don't know what happened, but within the hour the phone was working.  In fact, it wasn't just working, it was working better that it had worked at any point in the past two months.  It's amazing what prayer can accomplish!

    I'm just praising Him; Hallelujah!!!

    Danny Forshee Classics: Persistent Prayer

    Posted on 22:13 by Unknown

And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? Luke 18:7

It's been a rough week for all of us, but this sermon from two weeks ago is one a lot of us could hear:

    Highlights:

    • When we pray, and we persevere, God WILL do amazing things!!!
    • People give up too easy
    • People frequently quit just shy of a breakthrough.
    • Whenever God begins an awesome work, He starts His people a-prayin'!!!
    • Just let God win; he's going to win anyway, so just give up!
    • If we give up too soon, it's because we quit prayin'!
    • You cannot worry and fear and simultaneously pray and trust God
    • Prayer and persistence is the faith that Jesus is looking for when He comes
    • When we pray, God draws us to Him
    • Good things come to those who wait, but GREAT things come to those who persevere in Christ!!!
    • There is comin' a day when all-mighty God wins, and if you know Him, you get to win as well!!!
    • Divine delays do not mean Divine indifference!!!
    • Be ready when Jesus comes!
    • If you do not give up, you WILL see your prayers answered!!!

Dr. Danny Akin: The Marks of A Great Comission People

    Posted on 19:34 by Unknown

Last Wednesday night, Great Hills Baptist Church had Dr. Danny Akin in to kick off our Spring 2013 Global Impact celebration; this is a message every political conservative needs to hear:

    Highlights:
    • Would you rather have your son be an NFL superstar with all the earthly glory that entails, or would you rather have your son be a missionary who helps get 300,000 people to Heaven?!?
    • Out of every dollar placed in a typical Southern Baptist offering, only 2.75 cents ever leaves the United States; we spend most of our money on ourselves but Jesus' priorities are radically different.
    • Be careful that the good things don't overshadow the best things; often Southern Baptists get comfortable doing good works in their local area and don't reach out beyond that comfort zone.
      • Don't let your ministry in Jerusalem become an excuse to overlook the ends of the earth.
    • 3.6 Billion people in the world have low or limited access to the Gospel; in other words, they will go to hell unless we get off their butts and help them!!!
    • The Gospel is only good news if it gets there in time.
    • The Church is not good people; the church is sinners saved by grace.
    • You can be as politically conservative as the day is long and still bust hell wide open!!!
      • Personal note: OUCH!!!
      • For more information, click here; no, seriously, if you're politically conservative and don't have a personal relationship with the Lord, CLICK THAT LINK!!!
    • God, in great mercy, love, and grace killed His sons so that He would not have to kill you.
      • Jesus lived the life that you should have lived but didn't, and He took your place.
    •  Men have FAILED in the mission field!!!
      • Women outnumber men by at least 2.5 to 1 and sometimes by as much as 25 to 1
      • On a personal note, I like that ratio!!!
      • On a more serious note, the only person who can reach a Muslim man is a Christian man, so when Christian men abandon the mission field, they're condemning Muslim men to hell.
    • The Great Commission is not an option to be considered, it is a command to be obeyed!!!
